The Dinner Conversation — a photograph and installation — took shape over a long period of observation and reflection. The figures at the table are Lynn’s friends, Doug Rice and Cynthia Elliot, whom she often visited in their Broome Street loft in SoHo. Watching them eat and talk across the table, Lynn became fascinated by the feeling of suddenly being inside a spontaneous piece of theater. She later recreated that intimate setting, giving them no direction beyond simply sharing a meal and speaking as they normally would. The work grew from a desire to open a dialogue with the world, to honor and celebrate existence in a way that feels as lively, curious, and generous as the people at the table. The Dinner Conversation becomes, in this sense, a way of breaking the ice.
